Deepa Venkat is a Tamil film and a TV actress who first started her career as a child artist in the movie ‘Paasamalargal’ alongside Arvind Swamy, Revathy, and Ajith. She then continued to play small roles before moving into a different role of a voice artist. She has played roles in over 70 Television serials. She lent her voice for many top actresses like Devayani, Simran, Sneha, Vidya Balan, Anushka Shetty, Navya Nair, Kangana Ranaut, etc. In addition to voicing stars in movies, she has also lent her voice to animated TV cartoons like ‘Chip n’ Dale’ and ‘Gum-my Bears’ in the Tamil dubbing of these shows.
She had forayed into TV serials by chance when she was at the school itself and started at ‘Kavithalaya Productions.’ She often says her acting and dubbing prowess are today because of the foundation 'Kavithalaya' provided. She has played many an amazing role on the small screen as a good friend of Devyani’s in the popular serial ‘Kolangal.’ Her first break, though, was in the serial ‘Raghuvamsam,’ where she played a chirpy, bubbly student’s role after which she became a huge hit in the college-going and school-going community. She acted in all the episodes while attending school and managing time between academics and television which she managed well owing to what she says “a perfect memory.”
She has recently appeared in several films, including hit movies like Dhill, Baba, Kanden Kadhalai, and Saroja. In 2007, she was bestowed upon the prestigious title ‘Kalaimamani’ by the government of Tamil Nadu. She won the Norway Tamil Film Festival Award for Best Dubbing Artiste for the movie ‘Mayakkam Enna.’ She was also a radio jockey with Hello FM Chennai. Recently she dubbed for Kajal Agarwal in ‘Jilla,’ Nayanthara in ‘Raja Rani,’ and Meenakshi Dixit in ‘Tenaliraman.’
Recently, Deepa Venkat quit her Radio Jockey job due to her personal commitments. It is to be noted that her show, Moondram Paarvai is one of the successful shows in Hello FM. Deepa Venkat has lent her voice to "Nayanthara" in 13 films so far. “Simran” is in second place, and Deepa had dubbed for her in 9 films. Kajal Aggarwal and Anushka Shetty share third place, and Deepa had dubbed for them in 4 films.
Deepa had dubbed for Radhika Apte in the film, Vetriselvan in 2014. For the Tamil version of Bang Bang, Deepa lent her voice to Katrina Kaif. In the Tamil remake of Banda Baajaa Baaraat, Aaha Kalyanam, she dubbed for Simran. In “Jilla,” featuring “Vijay,” “Mohanlal,” Poornima Bhagyaraj, Nivetha Thomas, and Kajal Aggarwal, she dubbed Kajal. In 2015, she dubbed for Anushka in Tamil and Telugu for “Rudhramadevi” and “Bhanu” in Vasuvum Saravananum Onna Padichavanga. In the same year, she lent her voice for Anushka in Inji Iduppazhagi. Pranitha Subhash got Deepa’s voice for Massu Engira Masilamani. She dubbed for Hansika Motwani in “Puli.” Deepa’s voice suits Nayanthara’s emotions well, and that’s why it highlights Nayan’s performances too. Thani Oruvan, Maya, Idhu Namma Aalu, Kashmora, “Aramm,” “Velaikkaran,” Imaikka Nodigal, Vasuki, “Viswasam,” “Airaa,” Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, “Bigil,” “Darbar,” Mookuthi Amman and Netrikaan are some of her movies for Nayanthara. Deepa had dubbed Manisha Koirala in Oru Melliya Kodu. She had shared the screen space with Manisha in Baba featuring “Rajinikanth.” Deepa had dubbed “Sunaina” in Nambiyaar and Lakshmi Menon in “Rekka.” She provided her voice for Wamiqa Gabbi in Maalai Naerathu Mayakkam and Kajol Devgan in VIP2. Deepa’s latest dubbing for Kajal Aggarwal is for Kavalai Vendam, “Mersal,” “Comali,” and Paris Paris. Besides dubbing for Indian actresses, she also lends her voice for the dubbed Hollywood films, including Captain Marvel for Brie Larson and Bérénice Bejo for The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir. For dubbing Taapsee Pannu in Game Over, Deepa received the Best Dubbing Artist Award at the JFW Awards. Her excellent rendition in “Raatchasi” for Jyothika Saravanan received her appreciation widely. In a short film, Mama Jeevana Hethuna, she had dubbed Vidhya Vijay. In “Kaalidas,” Deepa dubbed for Ann Sheetal and Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal, Ritu Varma received Deepa’s dubbing. In 2021, Deepa dubbed Regina Cassandra for Nenjam Marappathillai. Shriya Saran received Deepa’s dubbing in “Sandakari,” and she dubbed “Aathmika” for “Kaatteri.” After 2010, she didn’t play in any movies and serials and concentrated on dubbing. Some of her serials are Ippadikku Thendral, Kadhal Pagadai, Premi, Aachi international, Akshaya, “Chithi,” Gopuram, “Annamalai,” Metti Oli, Jaya TV’s Roja, “Kolangal,” Agni Pravesam, Alli Raajiyam, Geethanjali, Sarada, Surya, Kasthuri and Mythili.
