He is an admired Tamil actor and a casting director. He was born as Ravi, but Jeeva went on to be added after his movie ‘Jeeva.’ He was born in Tamil Nadu. His most recognized work was in the movies ‘ 3’ and ‘Jeeva.’ Ravi is the successor (grandson) of the well-known film producer ‘G M Velumani’, who made some amazing films in the 1950s and 60s with actors like ‘ MGR’ and Sivaji Ganesan.

Initially, he began his career as a casting director, and later went on to do serials in most watched Tamil TV channels like Star Vijay and Sun TV. He appeared in serials like ‘ Kana Kaanum Kaalangal’ and ‘ Thendral’. After this, he appeared in several Tamil movies and gave some remarkable performances. His first break was in the 2012 movie ‘3’, by director Aishwarya Dhanush and it showcased outstanding actors like ‘Dhanush’ and Shruti Haasan.

He worked in movies like ‘Mouna Guru’, ‘Engeyum Epodhum’, ‘ Vathikuchi’ and others, after that. Then came his most remembered movie, ‘Jeeva,’ where he played the role of the cricket coach. This film, released in 2014, was a huge success at the box office. This movie was a sports drama, directed by ‘ Suseenthiran’. Vishnu and Sri Divya were the leads and they were supported by him and ‘ Soori’. ‘ D Imman’ gave the music for the film.

He was very much excited for this film mostly because he was also a cricket player and represented the state in the U-19 category. He said to the media, “playing a coach was interesting. The fact that most of the actors in the film have also played cricket at professional level helped.” He adds, “The character of coach Jeeva is very different. He plays an important role in motivating the boys to take up the game seriously.” The movie was a huge success and was an ace celebration. It was reviewed positively by the critics of the industry.

After that, he appeared in movies like ‘ Kaththi’, directed by ‘AR Murgadoss’ featuring ‘Vijay’ then, in ‘ Kaaki Sattai’ in 2015 with Shiva Karthikeyan, later in the ‘ Miruthan’ directed by Shakti Soundar Rajan in 2016. He has also been a part of other movies like ‘ Nugam’, ‘Meghamann’, ‘ Idhu Enna Maayam’ and, others.

He is currently working in the film ‘ Oru Pakka Kathai’ which is still in the filming process. He is playing a vital role in the movie ‘Tanna’ and also in director Vijay’s next. He has been active on TV; participating in reality shows and has done many advertisement commercials.

Major Sundarrajan

’Sundarrajan’ was born on 1st March, 1935, in Madras Presidency in India. Starting his career as an amateur stage artist, he grew as an exceptional talent in acting. Sundarrajan was working as an employee in the Telecom department during the 1950s. While playing in amateur stage dramas, Sundarrajan was offered a role in ‘Pattinathar’, which was directed by K. Somu. So, he made his silver screen debut with T. M. Soundararajan’s starrer in 1962. Gradually, he was offered good roles. Veteran director “K. Balachander” is the one who presented him with a good career. Yes, through his excellent performance as a visually challenged person in “Major Chandrakanth”, Sundarrajan reached heights as a character artist. The film had “J. Jayalalithaa” and “Nagesh” in pivotal roles. ‘Major Chandrakanth’ was released in 1966, and made him popular among the movie buffs. From the year 1966, he has been called as Major Sundarrajan. His voice modulation and majestic appearance are the great plus points to grab opportunities in cinema. This legendary actor has performed in more than 900 films. He had even performed in a few TV serials. Sundarrajan’s performance in “Gauravam”, with Sivaji Ganeshan, “Ethir Neechal”, with “Nagesh”, and “Muthuraman”, are memorable movies. His comical performance in “Bama Vijayam”, as a Hindu pandit with Sowcar Janaki, “Kanchana”, “Jayanthi”, “Sachu”, “T S Balaiah”, “Nagesh”, and “Muthuraman”, are still evergreen in the minds of the people. “Apoorva Raagangal”, with Kamal Haasan, showcased him as an excellent father. Sundarrajan married Shyamala, and the couple has a son named Gowtham Sundararajan. Gowtham is an actor and choreographer. Sundarrajan has directed a few movies too. “Andha Oru Nimidam”, “Kalthoon”, and “Indru Nee Nalai Naan” are some of his classical directorial ventures. He has also dubbed his voice for the super hit Hollywood film, “Jurassic Park”, in 1993, for the character of John Heyman. Sundarrajan’s suspense role in “Billa”, with superstar “Rajinikanth”, received huge appreciations from the audiences. He was last seen in the 1999 movie, “Kallazhagar”, with “Vijayakanth” and “Laila.” Due to his age-related health issues, Sundarrajan passed away on March 1, 2003, on his birthday.
