Rekha is a popular South Indian actress, who was born in the year 1970 in Kerala. Her birth name is Josephine and she changed her name to Rekha as the stage name. She completed her education in Ooty. She was introduced to the cinema industry through the veteran Tamil film director Bharathiraja. Kadalora Kavithaigal was her debut movie in the year 1986 and she performed as a teacher in that movie quite naturally. She was accompanied by Sathyaraj and Raja in that movie. It was a hit movie and Rekha was popularly called as Kadalora Kavithaigal Rekha. In the next year, she was called upon by the legendary director Balachandar to appear as a guest in his movie. She immediately nodded her head to him and that movie is Punnagai Mannan, in which she did opposite Kamal Hassan.
Her performance in the Malayalam movie Dasharatham in 1989 was lauded by the critics and she won the Filmfare Award for the Best Actress.
