Plot
Gandhi is a spy working for SATS, the Special Anti-terrorist Squad. It is affiliated with RAW. Gandhi’s work is based in Chennai. Jeevan is Gandhi’s son. Gandhi is retired now. But, after years of retirement, he has to help SATS, as their previous operation’s result, which was considered successful earlier, has brought an issue now. The SATS team needs Gandhi to get back into action to solve the issue. What is Jeevan’s role in Gandhi’s operation? Is Jeevan really his son? The rest of the film has all the answers about Gandhi’s SATS and his life.
Star Performance
Vijay excels in dual roles. His negative shade is pretty new and he gets applause for his new take. Vijay’s cool Gandhi and trendy Jeevan will definitely make his fans fly without wings. The rest of the stars appear in supporting roles for a limited time, yet they have done a remarkable job. Meenakshi is once again a template heroine.
Analysis
Venkat Prabhu’s screenplay is engaging. Yet, it is predictable to an extent. The writing should have been better. The film starts with a good note, then slows down. However, VP makes the fans sit straight in the second half with some twists and turns. The antagonist and the protagonist’s face-off scenes should have been shot better, and it is a regular villain-hero scene in Indian cinema. Mohan’s character needed more depth. Many expected Mohan to make a serious comeback with “Haraa,” and someone predicted that his real comeback would be with GOAT. But, we can say that VP should have designed his role better to give Mohan a solid role. The action scenes are choreographed well and they visually treat the fans. Venkat Prabhu touches on cricket in this movie too, and shows his love for the sport. The climax shot in the cricket ground is really stunning and it is definitely a fan favorite. Yet, the length of the climax should have been trimmed. The VFX team should be appreciated for their effort to de-age Vijay. The cinematography is neat. Yuvan’s music could have been better. The editing is not up to the mark, as we said earlier.

Verdict
GOAT may not impress all the audience, but it will definitely impress Vijay fans with his performance and style. It is neither a VP movie nor a complete Vijay entertainer, but a mixture of both that will satisfy Vijay fans!
