Born as Vijayaraj, he was known well as Vijayakanth, in the stage. His career started with Inikkum Ilamai. It was not a successful film. His movies failed to reach the public, till he committed with Sattam Oru Iruttarai by S. A. Chandrasekar. After the hit, he got many opportunities to shine in the Tamil film industry. He used all the opportunities that were available for him and gave many successful films.
