Mohan was born as Mohan Rao in ITI Colony in Bangalore, India. He was hailed in the Udupi district in Karnataka. Mohan is a popular Indian actor and producer who appeared in many Tamil films and few Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films. Beside his name Mohan, he is also popularly known as Kokila Mohan after donning his Kannada debut film, Kokila in 1977. In 1982, he was starred in the Tamil film,
from which he earned the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. Indian playback singer, S. N. Surendar lends his voice to Mohan in over 75 films.
Mohan started his career in theatre after the popular theatre actor B. V. Karanth spotted him in a restaurant. His very first stage play received praises by the critics around India. He is a student of the drama troupe, Benaka, which B. V. Karanth founded. Later on, he was introduced in Kokila by the director of the film,
. This film was a big hit and put him into the limelight of success. In 1980, he played as Bhaskar in the psychological Tamil film, Moodu Pani and since then, Mohan became one of the highest grossing box-office actors in the Tamil film industry. ’ of Tamil films after the success of many of his films.
He was also starred in the Malayalam film, Madaalasa in 1978. Right after the success of this Malayalam film, he donned the Telugu film,

; a remake of the Tamil movie, Kizhake Pogum Rail. Then he went on to appear in J. Mahendran’s Tamil film, Nenjathai Killathe in 1980. He also played dual roles in Gandar Golam, under the direction of Singeetham Srinivasa Rao. He started getting more opportunities after Nenjathai Killathe and he became a big star in Payanangal Mudivathillai.
He took a hiatus in year 1999 and made a comeback in the 2008 Tamil film, Suttapazham. Mohan stated that when not acting, he is busy producing television serials like Acham Madam Nanam, Selvangal, Hasiyaramayana and Brindavanam. Aside from that, he is also doing charity works and spends time with his family. He got married to Gowri in year 1987. Some of his best films include Thendralae Ennai Thodu and Rettaival Kuruvi. He donned his best performance in the critically acclaimed Tamil romantic drama film,
in 1986. This film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film. This year, the brilliant actor was starred in the upcoming Kannada film, Ashokavana, which is expected to bring him back as a solo hero.

It was a Tamil film. He played double roles in the flick Gender Golam. Singeetham Srinivasa directed it. Later he did Nenjathai Killathe, which catapulted him to fame. Then, he became a bankable star in Tamil film industry through Payanangal Mudivathillai.
Later Mohan came back in 2008 with Suttapazham after a gap, in the year 1999. It is a Tamil movie. Mohan used to produce TV serials such as Selvangal, Acham Madam Nanam Brindhaavanan, and Hasiyaramayana.
Mohan worked for a social cause and charity too. Mohan used to spend quality time with his family members. In 1987, Mohan married to Gowri. Some of his best shots were Rettaival Kuruvi and Thendralae Ennai Thodu. In 1986, he performed in Mouna Ragam. He starred in the movie Asokavana; a Kannada movie.
