T Uday Kumar is an Indian audio engineer who mainly works in the Tamilian Film Industry. He took birth in a middle-class family.
In school and college, his friends took subjects other than Arts, but Uday took up Arts unlike them. In 1998, he completed his education on film studies. His first job was as an apprentice at director Priyadarshan’s production house, Four Frames. It specialized in audio editing, sound mixing, film production, etc.
It gave Uday an opportunity to gain experience. Later, he assisted National Award winner Deepan Chatterjee in his projects. He learned a great deal under the renowned sound artist about sound designing and mixing. Deepan Chatterjee delivered background score in the movies of early 80’s and taught sound mixing to artists such as M.R. Rajakrishnan as well. His debut project came up in 2005 with the Tamilian movie Daas directed by Babu Yogeswaran.
Later, Uday went up to contribute to over 200 Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films. His recent works include collaborations with directors such as R. Ajay Gnanamuthu S. N. Shaktevel and Charles. T Uday Kumar grew up in a hill station in South India, and that is why he likes to travel to the mountains.
The sound of the trees and birds fascinate him a lot. His relatives only know that he works in for the Film Industry, but very few know about the work behind quality sound mixing put into making super hit movies. When asked about his signature element, Uday told that he loves to give extra detailing in the music.
The 2015 movie, Puli, became his most challenging work. The fantasy film needed sounds like birds and animals talking to each other. In an interview, T Uday Kumar said that his most of the works of sound artists go unnoticed as the types of equipment in the theater do not stand up to the standards of the music delivered. The young artist is an inspiration for the younger generation and has carved out an identity for himself among the big guns in the sound mixing field. He continues to work and deliver quality music.
