Prashanth Thyagarajan is an Indian actor. He works majorly in Tamil films apart from working in some Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi films. He was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He is a star kid. He is the son of actor – director Thiagarajan. He is a Computer Graphics and Multimedia student. After his 12th grade, his name was listed in two medical colleges.

He got married to Grahalakshmi, who was the daughter of a Chennai - based industrialist in the year 2005. But, the marriage didn’t work for long. Grahalakshmi filed a complaint against the actor for dowry and harassment. But, the Madras High Court declared their marriage as null because she kept her first marriage hidden before getting married to Prashanth. He gave back to back hits. He launched Police, which was a remake of a Hindi film –Khakee, but the film didn’t roll. The same happened with Sakkarai. Films like Petrol, Runway, Taxi Driver, Jockey, Arun Weds Harini and Vithagan were announced but not made.

He then acted in R. K.Selvamani's Pulan Visaranai II which got released in 2015 after a delay of eight years. With Shiva Shanmugam's Thagapansamy, came along appreciations for the actor. He did the Telugu feature film Latti in 1992, which is dubbed in Hindi as Sundara Kanda. It is also dubbed in Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada as Dawood Ibrahim, Vaaname Ellai, and Soorya Manasam respectively.
He also acted in the Hindi remake of his 1992 film Prema Shikharam, which released in 1994 under the title Anokha Premyudh.

Prashanth rose to stardom by S.Shankar's blockbuster romantic comedy Jeans in 1998, where he played a dual role, alongside Aishwarya RaiBachchan. It was the most expensive film of the Indian cinema at that time. It was dubbed under the same title into Hindi and Telugu languages. The film was a nominee for the Best Foreign Language Film for the Academy Awards in 1998.

He touched another peak of success with Kannedhirey Thondrinal in 1998. It ran for almost 25 weeks and was the most profitable film of that time.
With the success of Kaadhal Kavithai, the year 1998 recorded a hat-trick of hit films for Prashanth.

He gave a blockbuster Jodi in 1999 with actress Simran. They were dubbed as a hit pair then.
He appeared in debut director Hari's Thamizh which gained a positive response. Later around and after 2005 his career paced down due to his marital problems.

He took a break from the cinema after that and made a comeback in 2011 with the Indian epic historical drama film Ponnar Shankar. The film brought him an average review, followed by Mambattiyan, which his father co-wrote, directed and produced.

Johnny, his upcoming Tamil action drama film directed by Vetriselvan and produced by Thiagarajan is a remake of Johnny Gaddar. It is scheduled to release in 2018. He also owns a 12-floor jewelry store in T Nagar, Chennai which opened in 2008.

His cousin’s name is Chiyaan Vikram. Vikram’s mother was a sub-collector and she is the sister of Thyagarajan, Prashanth's father. Prashanth also acted in films like Good Luck, Appu which were great success in the South.

He also acted in the movie Parthen Rasithen. Piriyadha Varam Vendum was made by the director Kamal and Prashanth was a part of the project.
