Plot

‘Tiger’ is back on a mission, but this time, the life of his old friend from work, Gopi, is at stake. Tiger successfully rescued Gopi but couldn’t save his life. Before succumbing to death, Gopi reveals a shocking secret to Tiger about Zoya that she is planning something against India. This incident leads the story further where Aatish, an ex-Pakistan agent, came into the picture. Why is Zoya doing so? Who is Aatish, and what is he planning? As the story proceeds, all this is revealed.

Star Performances

'Tiger 3' features the same cast as the other two franchise movies. The only addition was Emraan Hashmi as Aatish. Emraan nailed out while portraying such a menacing and revengeful character. The sharpness with which he delivered the dialogues left a lasting impact on the audience. His body language and physical appearance contribute to his performance in the film. Katrina Kaif reprises her role as Zoya in the film. She has already proved her worth in the previous movies of the franchise. Her excellent action sequences and sarcastic dialogue allow her character to shine on screen. In Tiger 3, her character gets a back story that adds depth to her performance. However, she felt a bit underutilized after the interval. Salman is back with his most famous portrayal. He sets the film's tone right from the beginning and doesn’t take long to get into the skin of his character. He skillfully enhanced his performance by adding the elements of less explored emotions of Tiger as a father. The rest of the cast did an excellent job supporting the film’s narrative.

Analysis

‘Tiger 3’ further extends the YRF’s spy universe. It is based on the same premise as the other movies of this universe; there will be a large-scale attack by a terrorist group and our spies will be assigned to prevent it from happening. The story caters to patriotism, national duty, and sacrifice. Though the film succeeds in evoking such emotions and feelings, it is mediocre. The story is hardly any different from the recent release of the same spy universe, Pathaan except for the fact that this time it is Pakistan that needs to be saved. The only engaging part of the story is the character of Aatish and his motive. The rest of the twists and turns are more on a predictable side. The monotonous and clichéd representation of Pakistan as a villain continues in this film as well. The dialogue felt like a failed attempt to replicate the previous movie’s reactions. Regarding the performance, Bhai is back in action, and he did his best, especially in action sequences. However, what gives away the interest is the poor visuals of the film. One can spot the VFX-heavy scenes.

Also, Katrina’s one-on-one combat sequence adds layers to her character and her reasons. Emraan shines brightly whenever he appears on the screen. His character’s motives and evil intentions were justified by his portrayal even after the clichéd characterization. Goswamy’s cinematography is breathtaking. One of the brilliantly captured shots was the entry of Pathaan. He skillfully visualizes the film’s narrative through Russia, Europe, and Pakistan. The cameo appearance of another spy wasn’t surprising. They beautifully extend the future scope of the universe. The songs and background music of the film fail to impress. The editing is good but the visuals and VFX feel unrealistic. The director did a fine job but there was scope for betterment.

What’s There?

  • The decent acting performances enhance the film’s quality.
  • The film’s cinematography is praise-worthy.

What’s Not There?

  • The narrative is absurdly woven together without a flow.
  • There are a lot of plot holes and unanswered questions.
  • Some of the characters felt underutilized.
  • The film’s story felt clichéd.

Verdict

“Tiger3” is a blissful experience for Salman Bhai fans after his long streak of failed movies. It serves the audience with a simple story and decent acting and narrative. It is a bit low compared to the previous two movies of the Tiger franchise. Despite the number of shortcomings, the movie serves its purpose of establishing the further plotline of the spy universe. It is a one-time watch for action lovers.
