Plot
Krishna is passionate about theatre plays. He wants to revive the traditional acting format. Surabhi Natakalu is an old theatre form. He wants to revive this with the help of his father, Abhimanyu Narayanan, and Rama, his girlfriend. To uphold the theatre’s legacy, he had to face numerous challenges. Was he successful in getting back the legacy? The rest of the film showcases the challenges he faced and how he fought back.
Star Performance
Dilip and Regina did justice to the given roles. They shared a good on-screen chemistry, too. Both their roles are multifaceted and the youngsters manage to balance them well. Prakash Raj showed his versatility once again. He excelled in his role as a theatre veteran. His emotional performance will surely tie the audience. Rajendra Prasad, Ali, Raghu Babu, and Nassar are fine with their performances.
Analysis
The film’s biggest plus point is its star cast. Right from Prakash Raj to Regina Cassandra, all the stars are well-talented. Dilip easily gelled with this team and added his part as Krishna. The dialogues delivered by Prakash Raj and Nassar make one go nostalgic as they utter the old style theatre dialogues. Though the performances are good, the screenplay makes the film weak. The cinematography is good only in the theatre scenes. So does the music. Similarly, the romantic scenes look clichéd.

Verdict
Despite its flaws, the film has some interesting moments and sound performances. Utsavam may not be a great Utsavam, but watchable once!
