Anant Sharma or also known as Anant Vidhaat Sharma is an Indian theater and film actor. He was born in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh in India and brought up in
New Delhi. He took B. Com at Kirorimal College in Delhi, where he became a member of Players, a theater society.Initially, his parents were not so supportive of his decision to pursue an acting career. After graduation, he shifted to Mumbai and became an assistant director to
Satish Kaushik in three of his films; Vada (2005),
Shaadi Se Pehle (2006) and
Milenge Milenge (2010).
Later, he went to Poland to groom his talent in acting at Grotowski Institute. After three years, he started performing in theaters and moved to Mumbai to pursue his passion for acting. Initially, he has done workshops for Yash Raj Films.
Ali Abbas Zafar, who directed the 2016 romantic sports-drama film, Sultan, is his senior and also a member of Players during his theater days. He told him to audition in the 2014 action thriller film, Gunday, which was produced by
Aditya Chopra. Luckily, he bagged the role of Himanshu. Before this, he also received a call to audition for Pradeep Sarkar’s crime thriller film, Mardaani (2014). He was later cast in the film as Sunny Katyal, a high-profile member of a sex racket. After Mardaani, Anant became jobless for a year.
When he got a call to audition for Sultan, he was asked to do other character and not as Govind, the Haryanvi friend of Sultan (played by
Salman Khan). Later, the production decided to cast him as Govind, which is quite an important role in the film. He earned praises for his portrayal of the role especially with the way he delivered his Haryanvi accent in the film. When asked how he managed to get the language so right, he explained that he learned about it while doing theater and he is also interested in picking several dialects, which he used for mimicry. This is also the reason why Ali cast him in the film; he believes that Anant is fit for the role.
As of now, he doesn’t have any film offers yet, but Anant wished to work with
Shah Rukh Khan,
Irrfan Khan, and Nawaz Bhai in the future. He hopes that people will consider and cast him for good roles in his future projects. After three films, he found Bollywood a big learning experience.
