Madonna Louise Ciccone, best known worldwide as Madonna, is one of the most successful pop artists of all time. The American singer is recognized as the highest selling female artist of all time and her career, spanning more than thirty years, has seen her release a spate of albums that have been both critically and commercially successful. She has also seen success in numerous other ventures like business, acting and writing.

She officially began her career in 1983 when she released her self-titled album under Sire Records. It was powered by the hit single Everybody that released nearly a year prior to the album’s release date. It was well received by critics even though some wrote her career off to begin with. Her next album released just a year later. Titled Like A Virgin, it was considered by many (including the artist herself) to be an even stronger effort than her debut. The singles Material Girl and Like A Virgin became successful due to the nature of the songs.

Her next efforts True Blue and Like A Prayer hit stores in 1986 and 1989 respectively, and both albums did wonders to establish her as a musical superstar. Songs like Papa Don’t Preach and Like A Prayer touched upon controversial themes but made her shine even brighter. The album Sex, released in 1992, was praised as an adventurous album. Ray of Light saw her further her experimentation and the results were great; the album helped her reinvent herself for newer generations. However, she hit her stride once again with the album Confessions on a Dance Floor. She continued this success with the release of Hard Candy and MDNA, both of which were well received even if the sound of the albums was what many had come to expect from her.

Rebel Heart, her most recent effort that hit stores in 2015, was considered to be a progressive album that once again was praised from all quarters.
