Christine Ebersole is an American actress and singer. She was born on February 21, 1953, in the town of Winnetka, Illinois to Marian Esther and Robert ‘Bob’ Ebersole. Her father was the president of a big steel company, and it was his dream that she grow up to be an actress. She has an Irish, Swiss and German ancestry. Christine obtained her school education from New Trier High School and later attended Mac Murray College in Jacksonville, Illinois, graduating in 1975. She also has an honorary doctorate from her alma mater, which she received much later in. Christine went on to do a course at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
She was first married to Peter Bergman and is now married to Bill Moloney with whom she adopted three children – Elijah, Mae Mae, and Aron. She lives with her family in Maplewood, New Jersey.
She began her career in 1977 by appearing in two consecutive seasons of "Ryan’s Hope" (1977 and 1980), the story, life and experiences of an Irish-American family, and also appeared as the cast of the " Saturday Night Live Saturday Night Live or popularly called as NBC' >> Read More... " show in 1981 and 1982. Following that she went on to do other shows such as "Valerie" whose name was later changed to "The Hogan Family", a show about the struggle of a mother while raising three boys; "The Cavanaughs", an Irish family comedy; and "One Life to Live". She also made guest appearances in some shows which include "Just Shoot Me", "Boston Legal", "The Colbert Report" and "Royal Pains", to mention a few. She has repeatedly appeared on the sitcom titled "Retired at 35" and played the role of Carol Walsh in 2014 on the sitcom "Sullivan & Son".
Ebersole has been quite successful in her theatre career as well and has many titles to her name. Her performance in the Broadway adaptation of "42nd Street" as Dorothy Brock in 2001 bagged her her first Tony Award in the category of Best Leading Actress in a Musical. She was awarded the Outer Critics Circle Award in the category of Outstanding Actress in a Musical for the same. Her next Broadway performance was as Millicent Jordan in "Dinner at Eight" in 2002. For this role, she was nominated for a Tony Award. In 2006, she played a dual role in the play titled "Grey Garden" and remained with the production over the next year in different adaptations of this play. For her role in the "Grey Garden", she received her second Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical. She also received a Drama Desk Award, a Drama League Award for Outstanding Performance, the New York Drama Critic’s Circle’s Special Citation and the Outer Critic’s Circle Award in the category of Best Actress for Grey Gardens. Besides this, she has been nominated for awards numerous times.
Throughout her acting career, she believes that theatre has taken the most out of her. Working on stage, according to her, is very taxing and leaves little time for her to spend with her family. Ebersole is also a professional singer and has performed multiple times at cabarets and cafes. Venues that she has sang at include Cafe Carlyle, Fienstien’s cabaret called Good Friends at Loews Regency, Cinegrill, and the Playbill Cruise. For her Cafe Carlyle Cabaret performance in 2009, she received the 2010 Nightlife Award for Outstanding Cabaret Vocalist in a Major Engagement. In 2011, she performed at Birdland with jazz violinist Aron Weinstein and his group in New York City. She has come out with many albums, one of which was the complication of Noel Coward songs and featured on the Bright Lights, Big City concept album.
Ebersole has done a total of eighteen films, appeared in over thirty-four television shows, and more than fourteen plays between the 1980s till 2014.
She is a humble woman who believes that family comes before anything else. Taking care of her aging mother is one of the things she cherishes the most. She doesn’t like to wear jeans and stays in her pyjamas till she has to go to work. She claims to have experienced a psychic phenomenon often which is essential in the life of an actor, says Ebersole, as it is only when you open up can you receive.
