Carolyn Sue Jones was an American actress born in Amarillo, Texas, on April 28, 1930. From 1952 to 1982, she worked in over 30 movies. ' brought her great admiration and accolades. The stunning and versatile actress Jones worked in all genres of acting. In her early life, Jones had acute asthma that got her mainly in the confines of her house. Unable to go to the movies, young Carolyn started reading Hollywood fan magazines and dreamt of becoming an actress someday. In 1934 her mother and younger sister Bette Rhea were forced to move after their father abandoned them. At the age of 17, she joined the Pasadena Playhouse, which set forth the course of this enigmatic actress in the making. Though some speculate that she entered at the age of 15, that remains unfounded.
Eventually, she was selected by a talent agent and made her debut with The Paramount Pictures' The Turning Point in 1952. The same year, she also made her television debut on the Dumont series, The Gruen Playhouse. In 1958, she was nominated for the Academy Award for 'The Bachelor Party (1957) and later went on to win the Golden Globe Award in 1963. The role of Alma in the 1953 movie 'From Here to Eternity' was written especially for Jones, but since she came down with pneumonia, Dona Reed took the role and later won an Oscar for the same. Carolyn married four times and never had any children as she wanted to devote herself solely to her career. Her last role was Myrna in the soap opera 'Capitol' (1982 - 1983). It was around this time that she was diagnosed with colon cancer. Nevertheless, she played her part to the best of her ability. Finally, after her arduous battle with cancer, this star breathed her last on August 3rd, 1983.
