Joan Chandler, an actress, was born on August 24, 1923, in Pennsylvania. Joan lived on McKean street across from the library. Miss Chandler was a vibrant lady. She had a few movies and some television series to live her name through, as she is no more.
She started her career in the role of ‘Juvenile’ in a play on Broadway called, ‘The Late George Apley’, in 1944. Just like her sister, she was good at singing and at dancing. So her profession started to rank up, and she performed on screen, as well as TV series. ‘Humoresque’ (1946), directed by Jean Negulesco, and ‘Rope’ (1948), directed by Alfred Hitchcock, are the movies which brought her huge recognition. In the 1950’s, she was very much appreciated by the critics for her humor sense in, ‘My Three Angels’, as ‘Miranda.’ In the Shakespeare Festival, she performed in the story of ‘ The Tempest Click to look into! >> Read More... ’, and she was appreciated for that. Her performance was once telecasted on air through radio. A drama named ‘Theater Guild of the Air’, was a radio based drama. This was then a different approach, which is now what we are familiarized with as comic radio strips.
Some of the plays are: ‘The Disenchanted’ (1959), in this theater performance she appeared as the replacement for an actress; ‘The Lady from the Sea’ (1955); and ‘Where’s Charley?’ (1950). As she was blacklisted from HUAC (House Un-American Activities Committee), for resembling another artist, Diana Lynn, Joan was suffering to get her career back from this story. She tried by keeping her schedule busy, but she couldn’t, so she gave up her profession in the year of 1962.
Then, she gave a guest appearance on a TV series and in some movies. In between, her married life with David McKay and Dr. Charles C. Hogan was not the way she expected, and so she divorced both of them. Since she had cancer, Joan Chandler passed away on 11th May, 1979.
