Katherine Helmond

Katherine Helmond is an American artist who has worked in film, theatre and television as well. Also she has worked as a director and voice artist. She made her stage debut with As You Like It. She then also ran a summer theatre for three seasons and trained people in acting at University theatre. She had started her career in 1962 itself but came into recognition only after 1970’s. Her performance on stage in The Great God Brown by Eugene O'Neill received her a Tony Award nomination in the year 1973. Also other productions by Broadway include Don Juan, Private Lives, and Mixed Emotions.

Katherine also played the role of mother of character of Jonathon Pryce in the films Family Plot in the year 1976 and Brazil in 1985. Later in the year 1983, she studied directing workshop at American Film Institute’s. Then she went onto direct few episodes of Benson as well as an episode of serial Who’s The Boss in the year 1984. Then later she continued her brilliant performances on stage and received acclaim for her work in the Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler in 2001. In 1975 she appeared as the title character’s sister Emma Borden in The Legend of Lizzie Borden. Between the years 1984 to 1992 she played the ditzy matriarch named Mona Robinson in Who’s The Boss aired on ABC channel. The show was a blockbuster and continued for eight seasons and was in Nielson’s Top 10 for four years straight. Helmond was born in Galveston, Texas on 5 July 1929 to Joseph P. and Thelma Helmond. Helmond got married to George N. Martin and then later got divorced. In 1962, she married David Christian and the couple has been together since then.
