Bryan A. Stevenson is a well known American lawyer who stands for the welfare of the poor and deprived people. He was born on 14th November 1959 in Milton a small rural town in Delaware located in United States of America. His father Howard Carlton Stevenson, Sr.worked as a laboratory technician and his mother, Alice worked as a bookkeeper at Dover Air Force Base. Later she worked as an equal opportunity officer. He has two siblings an older brother named Howard, jr. and a sister named Christy.

He earned his degree in Law from Harvard law school and he did post graduation in Public Policy at a school named John F. Kennedy School of Government in Harvard University itself. He is a renowned lawyer, social activist, clinical professor at New York University School of Law.

He was also known to be the founder and also the executive director of the equal justice step. He has always been eager to know about the problems of the common people and has strived hard to attain their rights. He challenged racial discrimination in the criminal justice system and fought for justice to the poverty stricken and abandoned society. He Alabama and managed to save 115 men from the death sentence in Alabama. Stevenson has also has been able to protect young children as young as 13 from imprisonment of life without parole in adult prisons by submitting a petition for them in the Supreme Court. Archbishop Desmond Tutu regarded him as the “American’s Mandela” for his actions.

In 2014 Bryan Stevenson published a memoir named ‘Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption’ which deals with the story of equal justice initiative (EJI) a private, non-profit law organization which addresses condemned prisoners and juvenile offenders who are denied social or criminal justice and the significance of confronting injustice. This book has won various awards which include the 2015 Carnegie Medal for Best Non-Fiction, the NAACP Image Award for Best Non-Fiction and the Dayton Literary Peace Prize.

He has also published various immensely disseminated manuals on capital litigation and penned a lot on criminal justice, civil rights issues etc. Stevenson was awarded Olof Palme Prize in 2000 for his priceless services for the sake of humanity. He totally condemns the inequality of law faced by the poor people.
