Ellar Coltrane

Ellar Coltrane Kinney Salmon professionally known as Ellar Coltrane is an American artist best known for his performance as Mason Evans Jr. in the movie Boyhood. Coltrane was born in Austin, to Genevieve and Bruce Salmon, a composer. In 2001, at the young age six, Coltrane was chosen by filmmaker Richard Linklater to perform the title character of classes of the movie Boyhood; Linklater required to make an unusual film that would bestow a boy's growing of age, but with the actors passing up or developing on screen. Coltrane and additional members of the cast were filmed intermittently for many days at a time between 2002 and 2013 when Coltrane turned 19; they did 45 days of filming collectively. 

The movie was penned and directed by Richard Linklater and featured Patricia Arquette, Lorelei Linklater, and Ethan Hawke. Richard Linklater's girl, Lorelei works Mason's sister, Samantha in the movie. During his childhood, Coltrane also performed in several other movies, containing a small role in Linklater's 2006 movie Fast Food Nation. Fast Food Nation was a comedy-drama flick directed by Richard Linklater. The screenplay was penned by Eric Schlosser and Linklater, loosely based on the latter's 2001 non-story novel of the same name. The movie was pictured on the places in Houston and Austin, Texas and Colorado Springs, and slightly in Mexico.

The meat filling plant was in Mexico as well. Richard Linklater was chosen for the movie Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, the movie and even from the Imagen Foundation decided Wilmer Valderrama Best Star in Film. The film gained the Best Feature Film at the 21st Genesis Awards. He was mostly homeschooled as a kid, with the difference of three years of high class followed by a GED. He has also been recognised under his birth title by Ellar Salmon.
