James Ponsoldt brings to us a techno-thriller film, The Circle Click to look into! >> Read More... . The film exaggerates the period of social media and compulsive oversharing. The digital future as depicted by the movie seems disturbing as it portrays that in future there will be no segregation between private and public life.
Everything will be available for everyone to see. This may lead to social anxiety and other psychological disorders. Plot Mae ( Emma Watson She’s the first girl character to be reckoned with >> Read More... ) has been hired by big tech and social media company ‘The Circle’, similar to Google, Facebook or Microsoft, as a customer support associate.
Mae becomes active on The Circle’s account which is a type of social media platform, and once she is tracked down through the See Change Cameras (A product of The Circle) on her sneaky Kayaking trip, she becomes famous in the company.
Bailey decides to use Mae in an experiment, where she is supposed to go transparent which means, whatever she is doing can be seen by her followers. Mae takes this challenge. However, this groundbreaking experiment pushes boundaries of ethics, privacy, personal freedom in a whole negative direction.
This affects her friendship with Annie, her relationship with her parents and also leads to the death of her love interest in the movie Mercer ( Ellar Coltrane Ellar Coltrane Kinney Salmon professionally known >> Read More... ). Will Mae be able to face the consequences of her decision and make people understand that going digital may not always be the right choice for people? Analysis The movie cannot be put in the category of science fiction, but it is a form of augmented reality that keeps the audience in doubt as to what will be the outcome when the movie ends.
It manifests the harsh reality of the virtual world. The film proceeds in a very unsystematic way from Mae being a customer support associate to her being a very vital person in The Circle. The movie could have been better with a strong storyline and characterization.
James Ponsoldt tries to show the future of technology, however, he is not able to define it in a good way. Star Performances Tom Hanks is again shown as a humble yet tough character and gives a good performance as compared to other actors in the movie, though his role is very brief.
Emma Watson, on the other hand, looks tired and not up to the mark in comparison to her other movies. It seems like she has put very little effort in terms of her acting and facial expressions, showing very few variation throughout the film for the same.
What’s there?
1. The depiction of technology and the idea trying to be portrayed through the movie, even if not executed properly, is creative.
2. ‘The Circles’ campus shows a wonderful life of tech people and how they enjoy technology.
What’s not there?
1. The female lead Emma Watson is not able to impress much with her performance.
2. The movie moves too fast and is not neat. Verdict 1/5 Stars I will give ‘The Circle’ one star out of five, just for the idea and the concept. However, the movie has nothing different and is not even a one-time watch.
