David Mackenzie is a renowned British film director, who launched the Sigma Films production. He was born on May 10, 1966, in Corbridge, England. He attended the University of Westminster in London and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Scotland. David made his directorial debut in the year 2002 in the film, The Last Great Wilderness. This film was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2002. This was followed by the British drama film, Young Adam, which was adapted into Alexander Trocchi’s novel of the same name. In 2005, he helmed the Anglo-Irish drama film, Asylum, which was adapted from Patrick McGrath’s novel of the same name. The film earned a nomination at the Golden Bear at Berlin and nailed the prize at Guild of German Art House Cinemas. In 2007, he directed the critically acclaimed British film, Hallam Foe, which was adapted from Peter Jinks’ novel. It was premiered at the 2007 Berlin Film Festival and bagged the Silver Bear for Best Music Award. This film earned several film awards including the 2014 BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Director and Best Film. It also earned 99% of the Rotten Tomatoes score. This 2016, he directed the crime heist film, Hell or High Water, which was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016 under the section, Un Certain Regard. It holds 100% at Rotten Tomatoes.
