in the United States. He started showing interest in acting at the age of 13; when he did a school project and worked on his first film using a Super 8 camera. David went to Mamaroneck High School and developed his passion for acting during his teenage years. He is also an aspiring writer and wrote short stories for a newspaper during high school. He completed a degree in Bachelor of Arts at the Amherst College, majoring English and Political Science.
Post graduation, he went to Nicaragua, where he taught the literacy program of the political party, Sandinista. He has done labor jobs like catering, bartending, and even became a waiter. In Maine, he worked as a community organizer. He utilized video materials for his documentation regarding slums and bad housing situation in Maine. David is also a political activist, who’s raising funds along the neighborhoods. Aside from those jobs, he is writing short films. He began to work as a production assistant in Smithsonian World on PBS. He got this job after directing a documentary about Boston’s Panamanian Immigrants.
In the year 1987, he has written, produced, and helmed with two short films entitled Bingo Inferno: A Parody on American Obsessions and Hairway to the Stars; both were presented at the Sundance Film Festival. In 1994, he helmed Spanking the Monkey; an American black comedy film that won three awards at the Sundance Film Festival. His next release was entitled Flirting with Disaster in 1996. Both films turned as a success and led him to do George Clooney-starrer, Three Kings, in 1999. This film grossed more than $100-million in the USA and around the world.

David is included in the Board’s list of Ghetto Film School; an organization for aspiring storytellers. His first marriage was with Janet Grillo, a producer, but their relationship lasts until 2007. Since then, he had a relationship with Holly Davis, a costume designer. He supported the Autism Research and was an advocate for people with mental illness.
