Plot
Kho Gaye Hum Kahan revolves around the story of three friends and how their strong friendship helps them navigate through various difficulties during their twenties in the modern age. This movie gives a message to the audience on the positive and negative effects of social media on our lives. It shows how much excessive influence social media has on our lives in this modern age, shaping our outlooks on life, creating our mindsets, its negative effect on our attention span, making us crave validation, excessive sharing on social media and so on. The three friends have entirely different interests and personalities, despite that they continue to help each other navigate through difficulties in life. Through this plot, the film talks about the shallowness in modern-day relationships and mindsets influenced by a hyper-connected age of social media. The character Neil is unsure of his complicated relationship with Imaad and on top of that, even his friend Ananya is struggling with an unconfirmed breakup. Despite having their own relationship problems, they are always there to hold each other’s hand. The film has dominating themes of platonic solid friendships.
Star Performance
Ananya Panday gave her best performance, although it was not much compared to Adash’s acting.
Regarding Adash Gourav, though this role is quite different from his earlier roles, he still managed to pull off this role well. I’d say that he acted so well that his character was more relatable than others.
Siddhant Chaturvedi gives a beautiful performance, especially during his ending dialogue.
Analysis
The pacing of the movie was balanced. The narration really touched the heartstrings. Music was good enough not to steal our attention away from the show itself, thus it was not so memorable but good enough. They shot the film very well. However, at times, the plot feels like it is trying very hard to be in trend and relatable to the modern young audience. There is no creativity in the movie whatsoever, there is no apparent goal and to top it off, it feels too superficial. The writing does not have a flow to it and feels very rushed, and because of this the story feels hazy and the ending of the movie is too predictable. The lack of depth in the plot makes it feel preachy with its empty dialogues and morals. However, the humor in the film is excellent and the quality of acting by the supporting and lead actors was excellent. Although the personalities of most characters are not likeable, it is their friendship that stands out to us. Apart from the general plot, even the exploration of themes of the digital age and its influence is too surface level, there is no depth. Adarsh’s character was the only one who had depth in a show full of superficiality.
What’s There?
What’s Not There?
Verdict
Watch if you like shows about friendship and the modern digital age, although the latter theme in the film lacks depth.
