Ritesh Sidhwani was born in Mumbai on January 1, 1973. He had no formal education on filmmaking, yet he turned himself as a producer of Bollywood films and runs Excel Entertainment (an Indian film studio) in Mumbai, which was jointly created by Javed Akhtar’s son Farhan Akhtar, and Ritesh Sidhwani in the year 1999. So far the duo had released 14 blockbuster films under Excel Entertainment banner.

Ritesh was a childhood friend of Farhan and had scored well in box-office. Currently, Excel Entertainment has a tie-up with a Dubai company (Riva Group) to launch Excel Media. The JV will enable to develop and launch original content including games, webisodes and animation for television. Over the years, the Bollywood industry has evolved over the decades. 

Today from the one-man show, the industry has taken shape into corporatized film studio that churns out a handful of successful blockbusters year after year, making a significant contribution in the industry’s annual revenues. Take, for instance, Don-2 which was released by Excel Entertainment had a collection of over Rs 100 crore. 

Dil Chahta Hai was a first film of the Excel Entertainment company. The film came into limelight as Farhan became director and writer with this movie and became a talking point in the industry. The film revolved around the lives of three friends that was a new way of thinking in Bollywood.

Later, Excel Entertainment went to make films like Rock On!!, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Fukrey, which had a similar theme of friendships and the dilemmas that friends go through. Excel Entertainment signed Zoya Akhtar ( Luck By Chance) and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba (Fukrey). Excel had also collaborated with Red Chillies Entertainment (Fukrey) and Amir Khan Productions ( Talaash).

Excel has brought out the magic of multi-star movie that saved the Friday release in theatres from generation to generation. Most of the movies of Excel Entertainment managed to woo the audience with a sheer multi-star cast. However, ‘ Raees’ will have a solo hero Shahrukh Khan, which is jointly produced jointly by Red Chillies Entertainment and Excel Entertainment. An Indian rock musical drama film ‘Rock On!!2’ is now under production that is being produced by Farhan and Ritesh for Excel Entertainment. Ritesh is married to Dolly Sidhwani, and the couple has two sons.

Born on 7th July 1963, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is a screenwriter and filmmaker. Rang De Basanti and Baag Mika Baag are two of his acclaimed films. He has penned the script as well as directed the films Aks and Delhi 6. The issues surrounding the Mandal Commission of VP Singh inspired Mehra to direct Rang De Basanti. Mehra never hesitates to voice his opinion on current issues, no matter they are done through films or in real life. He in fact condemned the Education system of India to give priority to scores. He also cited Shakespeare and Rabindranath Tagore in this regard. He told that Shakespeare would not have been a great writer if he was recognized only by his scores. He applied the same logic to Rabindranath Tagore. Mehra is also fascinated towards culinary.  Mehra kick started his career as a marketing person for Eureka Forbes. Then he went on to work as a filmmaker in advertisements. He has worked in many television advertisements not only for Indian clients, but also for international ones. And he had a brief stint with music videos. Later Mehra donned the role of a filmmaker after trying his luck as ad filmmaker. Flicks Motion Picture Company Private Limited is the name of his company and the film Aks was produced under this banner. This film, though didn’t set the cash registers ringing, it was widely appreciated for the roles of Amitabh Bachchan and Manoj Bajpai. Rang De Basanti was the turning point in his career and it was highly successful in India as well as overseas. He was bestowed with the Filmfare Best Director Award for this film. This film also represented India at the Oscars. A couple of his films Delhi 6 and Teen They Bhai were not commercially successful. The Baag Milka Baag happened and it was not only a commercial success, but also critically acclaimed.

Sabiha Sumar is an independent filmmaker from Pakistan. Sabiha Sumar merely represents "women's cinema", and directed films that geared toward female moviegoers. She is one director who has been directing critically –acclaimed films since her career as an independent filmmaker. Sabiha also made many documentary films before she could handle feature films. Her first film fetched her recognition and award in an international film festival, and she collected her Golden Leopard trophy from Locarno International Film Festival in 2003. Although her first feature film ‘Khamosh Pani’ was banned in Pakistan, her documentary ‘Saving Face’, brought home an Oscar for her, she earned a global audience for her films and has put Pakistan on the map of world cinema. This director has bagged two Emmy Awards and an Oscar. This prolific filmmaker was born in Karachi on September 29, 1961. She had earned much acclaim for both her documentary and narrative film, which deal with social and political issues and points out the religious fundamentalism on society.
