Ritesh Sidhwani was born in Mumbai on January 1, 1973. He had no formal education on filmmaking, yet he turned himself as a producer of Bollywood films and runs Excel Entertainment (an Indian film studio) in Mumbai, which was jointly created by Javed Akhtar’s son
, and Ritesh Sidhwani in the year 1999. So far the duo had released 14 blockbuster films under Excel Entertainment banner.
Ritesh was a childhood friend of Farhan and had scored well in box-office. Currently, Excel Entertainment has a tie-up with a Dubai company (Riva Group) to launch Excel Media. The JV will enable to develop and launch original content including games, webisodes and animation for television. Over the years, the Bollywood industry has evolved over the decades.
Today from the one-man show, the industry has taken shape into corporatized film studio that churns out a handful of successful blockbusters year after year, making a significant contribution in the industry’s annual revenues. Take, for instance, Don-2 which was released by Excel Entertainment had a collection of over Rs 100 crore.
Dil Chahta Hai
was a first film of the Excel Entertainment company. The film came into limelight as Farhan became director and writer with this movie and became a talking point in the industry. The film revolved around the lives of three friends that was a new way of thinking in Bollywood.
Later, Excel Entertainment went to make films like
