Thamarai was born in Tamil Nadu, India on 10th November 1975. She is a lyricist by profession and also writes poems, essays and is also a former journalist. She is a renowned lyricist and mostly writes in Tamil. She received her primary education from Coimbatore and graduated from Government College of Technology in Coimbatore. After her graduation, she continued to work there and later moved to Chennai and devoted her time for a company as an independent journalist, where she used to write essays, poems and short stories for them.
She came into the limelight and became very popular among the people through her writing and also joined the Tamil Industry where she started to write lyrics for various movie songs. Thamarai made her debut in 1998 film, “Iniyavale”. The story is about a poet who dreams of becoming a big man and of becoming a collector before he gets married. His and Meena’s father decide to get them married, but he resents their decision and does not want to get married. Meena misunderstands and misinterprets his words and commits suicide. He feels guilty about the incident and decides to marry Meena’s younger sister to reciprocate for the loss.

The plot is about Thenali, a person who has the phobia for almost everything, and is in treatment by a doctor and his assistant. Thenali visits him there and falls in love with his younger sister. The whole plot focuses on the madness that Thenali creates and the chaos he brings into the doctor’s life. She created some fantastic tracks for Ghajini. The movie did a fantastic business at the theaters, and the audience loved the film.
