Pa Ranjith’s Statement On Tamil Cinema Sparks Controversy

Pa Ranjith went on a bizarre rant when he attended the success meet of Bison Kalaamadan.

Despite clashing with movies like Dude and Diesel, Mari Selvaraj’s Bison Kalaamadan managed to turn out as a decent commercial success, with a net worldwide collection of nearly 50 crores over a modest budget of 30 crores. However, instead of praising the movie and the director, Pa Ranjith went on a rampage, accusing people of insulting him and his comrades, who tried to provide a new direction to Tamil cinema with socialist movies. The director also compared Tamil cinema with Kannada cinema and Telugu cinema, saying that even though people accuse directors like him of destroying Tamil cinema, no one tried to prove it by their own work.

However, the main controversy came up when Pa Ranjith tried to prove that it was because of his that Rajinikanth’s career got a new lease, otherwise most of his subsequent films were far from entertaining. Pa Ranjith last directed the historical drama Thangalaan, which tanked at the box office despite critical appreciation.
