Matthew McConaughey is an American actor. He was born as Matthew David MacConaughey on November 4, 1969 to Kathleen Kay and James Donald McConaughey at Uvalde Texas. He was raised as a Methodist. Matthew shifted to Longview, Texas in year 1980 where he studied at Longview High School. Later, he moved to Warnervale, NSW in Australia for one year as an exchange student of the Rotary Foundation. He also went to University of Texas at Austin College of Communication. From there, he become a member of the Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity. He took up a Radio-Television-Film degree in 1989 and graduated in 1993. Initially, he aims to study in a law school, but later, he realized that he is not interested anymore.
He initiated his career in acting in year 1991 after doing many television commercials like the Austin American-Statesmen. Later, he was cast in the 1993 comedy film, Dazed and Confused as David Wooderson. He has done small roles in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, Unsolved Mysteries, Angels in the Outfield and Boys on the Side. He also bagged the male lead in the music video, Walkaway Joe by Trisha Yearwood. He got his breakthrough in the 1996 drama film, A Time to Kill as Jake Brigance. He was cast in the lead roles in late 1990’s through the movies’ U-571, Amistad, Contact, EDtv and a lot more.
In year 2000, he was regularly seen in romantic comedy films like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and The Wedding Planner, which made it to the box-office success. During this time, Matthew was starred in a low-budget film, Tiptoes in 2003. He was also co-starred in the psychological film, Frailty in 2001 and in the drama-sports film, Two for the Money in year 2005. In the same year, he was featured in the action-comedy film, Sahara which also stars Penélope Cruz and
. He was considered as the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ by People’s magazine in 2005. Later, he bagged the role of Tripp opposite with
Sarah Jessica Parker
in Failure to Launch. In 2006, he essayed the role of Jack Lengyel, a head coach in the historical drama film, We Are Marshall. He also voiced for the Peace Corps ad campaign in the same year. In the 2008 action comedy film, Tropic Thunder by
, he replaces
after his suicide attempt.
In 2012, he was starred in Steven Soderbergh’ comedy drama film,
. Matthew came back to East Texas and worked with Director Richard Linklater in 2011’s black comedy film, Bernie. In 2013, the brilliant actor loses 38-pounds to play the role of Ron Woodroof, a real-life AIDS patient in the biographical drama film,
Dallas Buyers Club
. This film was critically acclaimed and earned several awards. He won the Best Actor – Drama in the Golden Globe Awards and the Best Actor at the Academy Award.
Recently, he played as Rustin Spencer Cohle, a detective in the crime drama series, True Detective. He was also starred as Joseph Cooper, an astronaut in the box-office science fiction film, Interstellar along with which was released last November 7, 2014.
Matthew received the Best Actor award at the academy Award for Dallas Buyers Club. He also earned the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series for bagging the role of Rustin Cohle. He got married to Brazilian model, Camila Alves on June 9, 2012 in Texas. The couple has three children namely, Levi Alves, Vida Alves and Livingston Alves McConaughey.
