Conan Stevens

Mark Stevens, best known by his alias and nickname Conan Stevens, is a former professional wrestler, writer, and actor. He is perhaps most known for his role Gregor Clegane a.k.a. ‘The Mountain’ in the hit HBO TV series Game Of Thrones. He has also appeared in the Hobbit movie ‘The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies’, which had a rating of 7.5 on IMDb.

The Australian actor enrolled himself in the University of Newcastle (the Australian city, not the English one) and studied acting there. Before going into acting in movies, he joined the Sydney Dance Company and was a part of the hit modern-day ballet titled “Berlin”. The show was so well received that it played for six return seasons at the internationally famous Sydney Opera House. However, Stevens was pursuing another dream the same time as he was doing ballet: professional wrestling.

Working in Australian independent promotions, the seven foot Conan managed to win both a Tag Team title with a partner as well as become a Heavyweight Champion. His dream was to earn a contract in the American wrestling promotion World Championship Wrestling, which at that time was an extremely popular company in Australia having run live shows there. However, he suffered some serious nerve injuries that put a kibosh on his dreams of making it as both a pro wrestler and an action movie star.

He eventually managed to bag a role in a Thailand-based movie titled ‘Powerkids’, a movie aimed at the children. He starred in several Thai films, and his biggest success came with Bangkok Adrenaline, a movie which he not only starred in but also co-produced and wrote the script for.

What started off as a project to simply “showcase some skills” was a successful movie in Thailand and even got a DVD release in international markets. The success of Bangkok Adrenaline and his self-promotion work done via his personal website led him to get an audition for Game of Thrones. H

e was cast as Gregor Clegane or “The Mountain”, a warrior with a propensity for brutality. His role in season 1 of the series is best remembered for literally making the head of Oberyn Martell explode in a battle. He also ended up making an appearance in an action movie, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, as an unnamed Keeper of the Dungeon.
