What Is The Responsibility Of A Co-producer?
A co-producer may also be a line producer, and their responsibilities vary hugely. Co-producer is someone who performs all of the producer’s functions jointly as a team. They are responsible for business aspect in the phase of film production. They carry out significant role of creative production, recruiting the director, helps with casting or hiring main Heads of Department. The co-producer may also be a partner in producing the film. In this case they play a major role in development of the film. They assist the production and supervise post production to enable the producer to take a move for other production. In international co-production, the co-producer may also be the lead producer from one of the partners.
They usually raise a vital portion of budget for the film but have less creative input than the main producer. In order to indicate the co-producer as an important part of the film production they are credited as co-producer rather than executive producer. Co-producers have thorough working knowledge of creative and business processes of film making. They are aware of the current markets for different styles and genre of the film. The co-producers are directly involved in the legal responsibility under Health and Safety Work Act 1974. They identify the hazards, risks and take precautions to control the risk. A co-producer prepares the budget for the production, ensures compliance with regulations, select crews, controls production expenditure, monitors and controls the progress of production and supervises the editing of completed film.
