Bill Maher

Bill Maher is an actor, political commentator, comedian, TV host, writer and a producer from America.

He was born on the 20th of January, 1956. His father was a radio and news announcer. Bill Maher must have gotten inspiration to get into the same field from his father. He initialized his career as a comedian for Catch a Rising Star, a comedy club in NYC. He played small roles for TV shows such as Max Headroom, Murder: She Wrote, and Charlie Hoover. He also did films like House II: The Second Story, D. C. Cab and Pizza Man, with D.C. Cab being his first. He was the host of Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, a talk program with a political theme. This show won many awards and nominations, which included an Emmy Award. Another similar show he did was Real Time with Bill Maher. He has gotten into a lot of controversy for his comments on his political talk shows. Though he supports the US Military, he was suspected to be anti- military due to one of his episodes.

He worked as a commentator of political themes for various channels like CNN, Fox News Channel, HLN and MSNBC. He was also a part of many other political talk shows, which were similar to his own. Some are Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Hardball with Chris Matthews, and The Joy Behar Show. He performed in the play, Hollywood Hell House, where he played Satan. He had his hand in the creation of the movie, ‘Religulous’, a motion picture, which criticized religions all over the world.

He became an executive producer of Vice, HBO’s news magazine, in 2013. He has been criticized for his comments and views on his talk shows. He says that he is a practical, sane person. He is against the legalization of social vices, such as gambling and prostitution. He is also a part of the Advisory Committee of Marijuana Policy Project and has been named ‘The Contemporary Cannabis Statesman’ for his work. He is also an environmentalist. He realizes that global warming needs to be tackled with human interference. This fact was obvious when he was for the Kyoto Treaty in Real Time with Bill Maher. He is a member of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) too.

He does not believe in religions and could be called an atheist and agnostic. On the other hand, he believes in science. We know this as he is a member of Project Reason, an organization which emphasises on scientific knowledge above other things. For his views, he was awarded the Richard Dawkins Award by an organization called Atheist Alliance International.
