With time travel as the main theme, 24 has hit the theaters much to the excitement of the fans. There has been much hype about the big budget film since its day one. With Suriya taking the lead role and Vikram K Kumar of Telugu film Manam and Yaavarum Nalam fame joining the bars is indeed raised high. Now let’s see whether 24, the Tamil-Telugu bilingual, lives up to its expectations.
Before delving into the plot of this sci-fi fantasy, let me make it clear that 24 has to be watched right from the beginning to keep track of it.Well, as for the story itself, Suriya enacts the role of a twin; one is an evil don, and the other is an intelligent scientist. The scientist sibling makes a special watch that can influence time. The evil Don, who has an eye over the watch, kills his twin brother’s wife. Well, our scientist brother escapes from that place along with his little boy. The don is not the one to give up; he follows his brother.
The scientist lands on a train and gives the special watch to a lady whom he bounces upon. He also leaves his special watch with her. The don finds his brother and eventually takes his life. However, he could not get possession of the watch. While attempting to kill his brother, the don gets disabled. Well, now the baby boy grows up and to the excitement of the fans, becomes another Suriya! How he makes use of the watch forms the rest of the story.
Suriya has never shied away from experimenting with his roles and 24, which is his home production, is another feather in his cap. He has stunned us in his triple avatar and has given a seamless performance as both the antagonist and the hero. His role as Athreya, the villain, deserves special mention. He has an onscreen charisma that will attract the audiences. When you think about the long duration of the movie, Suriya compensates for it with his charming looks.
Samantha, who is having a good time in Kollywood now, impresses usr with her act. Nithya Menen has pulled off her character with ease. Saranya Ponvannan, as the mother, does a convincing job as usual. The rest of the cast have supported well.
It is no exaggeration to tell that director Vikram K Kumar has done an outstanding job in 24. All the scenes have meaning, and the narration is commendable. The movie can be compared to Hollywood standards.
What’s not there?
A courageous and laudable effort by the team. A big thumbs up for 24!
