His music journey had begun at the age of 4 when he learned piano. At the age of 11, he joined the Maestro Ilayaraja's troupe as a Keyboard player. He made his debut as a composer with the legendary film-maker G.R.Maniratnam’s film “Roja” which came out in 1992. Some of his popular music albums were for the movies like Rangeela, Bombay, Dil Se and Lagaan: Once upon a time in India.

He is known to be the Redefining Contemporary Music Legend by the BBC estimate, which had sold beyond 150 million copies of his film albums and soundtracks. He did take up music as his profession at a very tender age. He had pursued a degree in Western and Classical music in the Trinity College of Music, London.
