Kanguva is the debut of Bobby Deol and Disha Patani in Tamil.
Plot
Francis Theodore is a bounty hunter. His job is to find the criminals who escape from the police and give them a tough chance to find them. Angelina is one of the bounties and a competitor of Francis. She is his ex-lover, too. While on such a hunt, Francis meets a kid with whom he feels some connection. Kanga lived 1000 years ago, and he is his clan’s lead. His village is under threat from another tribal lead, Udhiran, and also Romanians. Kanga and Udhiran’s team fight against each other; one to save his clan and the other to destroy the opponent. Who wins the war? Who is the kid saved by Francis? What is his connection with Kanga and Francis? The rest of the film explores all.
Star Performance
Suriya is as good in his roles as ever. His body language is as stunning as a warrior. Bobby Deol has a menacing look and his expressions are impressive. Disha Patani landed in a template role and has nothing significant to do. The rest of the stars have done what was asked.
Analysis
Siva has tried bringing a sentimental film with war sequences and grandeur appeal. Like his films Siruthai, Viswasam, and Annaththe, Kanguva has strong sentiments, but did they work out? Siva’s screenplay had always been faster, but in Kanguva, it is a bit slow in the first half. Suriya’s intro scenes are fantastic and his screen presence is amazing. While Kanguva appears on screen, the major focus is on his chiselled body. The cinematographer focused on his biceps and shoulders and showcased Kanguva as a larger-than-life character and enthralled his fans. Editing should have been better in the first half. A few lengthy scenes create a lag in the movie’s flow. The action sequences are stunningly made. The VFX portions are good, except for a couple of places. The crocodile fight is one of the major highlights of the film. Coming back to Siva’s writing, he should have planned something better. Though the story looks good in the paper, it doesn’t give any Goosebumps effect in the execution. A few scenes are elevated well by DSP’s music and in some scenes the BGM is too loud. DSP should have reduced the noise. As people know who’ll be doing the cameo, that suspense portion is also not surprising.

Verdict
Kanguva is good for its grandeur visuals and making. The film has Suriya’s performances and looks and Bobby Deol’s menacing appearance. So, it will impress Suriya’s fans as they see their hero appearing on screen in dual roles with a powerful performance after a couple of years!
