Plot
Devara lives in a coastal village, Ratnagiri. He has a brother, Bhaira. These brothers and Rayappa are considered the biggies of the village. They work under Muruga, a big smuggler. At a point, Devara realizes smuggling is wrong and stops working for Muruga and suggests Bhaira, too. But Bhaira wants to continue smuggling and decides to kill Devara. Soon, Devara has gone missing. After twelve years, Devara’s son Varada joins Bhaira. Why did he join Bhaira? Is he against his father? Is Devara alive? The rest of the film travels with these questions.
Star Performance
Tarak’s performance as Devara is mind-blowing. The scene in which he realizes to stop the illegal activity showcases his versatility in emoting. He excels well in the stunt sequences. Janhvi is a template heroine with nothing significant to do in this film. Saif Ali Khan is good in the given role. However, he didn’t have any strong performing scenes that worth mentioning. Srikanth is seen in the film. Prakash Raj appears in many scenes, but nothing is there to pinpoint as his best. Shruti Marathe is good in the given role. Shine Tom Chacko didn’t get anything meaty.
Analysis
Koratala Siva is one among the popular directors who could elevate the heroes’ roles to larger-than-life ones. In this movie, he has tried the same. The story completely focuses on Devara and Varada. The rest of the characters are not projected well. Only if the villain’s role is scripted well from a different perception we’ll get an interest to discuss about it further. Saif’s Bhaira didn’t have any uniqueness, but a regular antagonist’s character. However, he makes a strong debut in Telugu. The rest of the others, including Muruga of Murli and Rayappa of Srikanth, appear in limited scenes. Prakash Raj’s appears as Singappa in a good number of scenes, but the backstory of his character is not strongly penned. Janhvi should have been given a strong role, at least to showcase her minimum potential. Anirudh’s BGM is fantastic and the visuals by Rathnavelu’s camera are pretty decent.

Verdict
Whether the writing is lacklustre or not, the film is definitely a treat for JR NTR’s fans. If the other characters had been written better, it would have elevated the film to the next level!
