Plot
Thangalaan is one of the few landowners in his community who were bonded laborers to the big landlords. Those few landowners had been made laborers by a landlord, who grabbed their land in a crooked way. Soon, Thangalaan, too, fell in the trap. However, he was contacted by a British explorer, Clement, who was seeking help from his community people to get gold from a place which was assumed to be haunted. Thangalaan had already heard the gold story from his grandfather and learned about their failed attempt. So, he decides to go with Clement, who may give him money if he helps him find gold. To win back his land from the landlord, Thangalaan starts his mission. Will he be successful? The rest of the film showcases Thangalaan’s attempt to get back his land.
Star Performance
This is one of the best performances in Vikram’s career so far. Though we can’t rank it as his first best, this will rank as one of his top 5 best performances. He just lived in the role of Thangalaan. We can’t see Vikram on screen, but Thangalaan. The next best performance is from Parvathy, who recently grabbed attention with her performance in “Ullozhukku” with “

.” Pasupathy excelled in his role, and Malavika Mohanan is another top performer in Thangalaan. Her role, Aarthi, will stay in our minds, even after a week of watching the film. She is as impressive as Chiyaan, Parvathy and Pasupathi. Daniel Caltagirone has done justice to the given role as Clement.
Analysis
When speaking about storytelling, Pa Ranjith has excelled in his endeavor. His previous films, right from “Attakaththi” to Sarpatta Parambarai, are the finest examples of his execution. He gives the audiences a fine cinematic experience. The visuals are wonderful, though we are introduced to some barren land in the beginning. The editing by Selva is neat. GV Prakash’s music adds life to the story shot by Ranjith. Ranjith’s character-designing ability is appreciable. Right from Vikram to Daniel, all the characters are perfectly sculpted, and the right stars are picked.

With a strong star cast and performances, Ranjith has given a wonderful rendition of Tamil cinema. For the efforts made, Thangalaan is definitely watchworthy!
