Plot
Tilak and his adopted son, Paarivel Kannan, are notorious gangsters. Paari falls in love with Rukmani and decides to quit his criminal activities and settle in life with her. However, Tilak wants to complete his next project, Gold Fish, which is known only to Paari. In a turn of events, Paari gets arrested. However, he escapes from prison with Michael’s help. Why did Paari escape? What’s the reason behind Tilak’s Gold Fish obsession? Who is Michael? All these answers form the rest of the story.
Star Performance
Suriya’s performance is good. He appears in different styles and is also convincing in the action scenes. Pooja Hegde is decent in her role. Joju is good in his role as Tilak. Vidhu is okay, but he is not a strong antagonist.
Analysis
Karthik Subbaraj has once again proved that screenplay is very important. However, the screenplay loses its grip in the middle. The film doesn’t stick to a particular genre and juggles between romance, action, and sentiment. The second half could’ve been planned better. The pre-climax is not very clear. He has placed talented artists, yet the antagonist could’ve been better. Pooja Hegde’s role is an essential one in the story, but her scope for performing is comparatively less. Yet, she has done a good job compared with her previous roles. Similarly, Nassar, Prakash Raj, and Jayaram don’t deserve such minor roles. If those characters had been developed better, they would’ve contributed much to the film. Santhosh Narayanan’s music is the biggest plus. His BGM elevates a lot of scenes.
