Plot
Amaran and Chandra, Sadanand’s children, are separated after a major criminal activity. Sakthivel and his brother, Manickam, rescue them and raise them as their children. In a turn of events, Sakthivel is imprisoned, and Amaran is now the emperor of their world. After his return, Sakthivel finds Amaran being treated as the leader. While Sakthivel was travelling, a murder attempt was made, which makes him suspect Amaran. Was Amaran responsible for the murder attempt? The rest of the story follows the connection and dealing between Sakthi, Amaran, Manickam, and Sadanand.
Star Performance
Kamal Haasan performed quite naturally, as usual. Simbu is good, and so does Abhirami. Joju is decent in his role. Trisha has nothing significant to do.
Analysis
There had been a great expectation for this film, as it is the reunion of the Nayagan director and actor. Did they get the same sparkling success again? The film starts with Mani Ratnam’s style, and we can witness the same pattern of monologues, which are Mani’s trademark elements. The songs and BGM are good, yet the BGM could not elevate certain scenes. The visuals are classy. The first half is okay with the power race. However, there are no big twists and turns. When we expect the second half to be with an adrenaline rush, alas! we are disappointed with that! The only solace is Simbu’s performance in the climax. Mani should be appreciated for providing Simbu an equal role to that of Kamal Haasan. Though there are Kamal and Simbu, who delivered good performances, their efforts didn’t go well after a certain sequence. Trisha didn’t get a strong role from her mentor. Though there are enough emotional sequences, they didn’t work as expected, including the ones between Kamal and Simbu. The de-aging work shown in the beginning is good. Thanks to the team, CG team.
