Vairamuthu is a very famous Tamil writer, poet, and lyricist. His full name is Vairamuthu Ramasamy. He was born on 13th July 1953. He was born in a middle-class family to Ramasamythevar and Angammal in Mettur. His family moved to Vadugapatti, Theni in Tamil Nadu when he was four years old. He is famous by the pen name Kaviyarasu or Kaviperarasu. He got inspiration from the Tamil and Rationalist movements in the 1960s that enthused him to pursue a career as a writer. He graduated from Pachaiyappa's College in Chennai. As a speaker and a poet, he was highly praised as the best in his college.

His first publication was an initial anthology Vaigarai Megangal in the mere age of nineteen years. His writings were taken in the syllabus of Women's Christian College, and he received the distinction of a student whose publication was accepted as a program of study while he was studying himself. In 1979, his next work was published. The second publication written by Vairamuthu Ramasamy was Thiruthi Ezhuthiya Theerupugal in free verse. His first film debut as a lyricist was in the movie Nizhalgal by Bharathiraja in 1980. His career as a Tamil lyricist took flight through the Tamil movie Soolam in 1980. He was also appraised for the work partnered with A. R. Rahman. His partnership with A. R. Rahman acquired appraisal from critics, awards and hits on box office.

He has been awarded National Film Award for being the Best Lyricist for six times. He has won the maximum number of awards by any Indian lyricist. He was honored by the most prestigious awards of all time, Padmashri in 2003 and Padma Bhushan in 2014. He has done notable contributions to the Tamil literature and was granted by the Government of Tamil Nadu for the same. He was also the recipient of Bharathi Literature Prize and Kalaimamani that is given by the Tamil Nadu Eyal Isai Nataka Manram for his work in the of art and literature and much more. Famous poets like Bharthiyar and Bharathidasan his writings. His works are translated into various languages also. He is the TN President of Indo-Russian Friendship Society. He has also visited and presented his work in abroad on request. He was awarded the title of  Kaviyarasu in 1986 by the "Tamil Development Society of Madras".
