Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, that has an attractive star cast, is directed and written by Karan Johar. Well, let’s analyse whether Karan Johar sustains his success story (after the tremendous success of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) through this film.
Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan are two lovely couple and they bring up their children Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan with all the love that they can shower. Amitabh is a staunch follower of his family values and he tries to inculcate the rich heritage in his sons too. Jaya Bachchan thinks in a different angle about her sons. She also has a special rapport with her son Shah Rukh, who is adopted. However, Shah Rukh’s adoption is not known to others. Shah Rukh gets to know that he is an adopted son when he is 8 year old and since then he shows his immense gratitude to his parents. He is so thankful to them, especially towards his dad that his every word is a golden commandment. But the irony is that when we follow something firmly we sometimes tend to break it. In this regard, Shah Rukh goes against his father’s wish; he falls for Kajol, who is a chirpy and simple girl.
Shah Rukh marries Kajol and comes to the home along with her. Big B somehow doesn’t find her to his expectations. Shah Rukh, with a heavy heart, leaves home with Kajol, making his mother eagerly wait for his comeback every morning. And what about the younger brother Hrithik Roshan? Does he reunite the family? Watch the movie to get answer to this interesting question.
All the stars in the film have done a superb job. Be it the stubborn Amitabh who later shows his soft side, or the ever-doting mother Jaya Bhadhuri or the intense Shah Rukh Khan or the spirited and patriotic Kajol or the sweet Hrithik (in fact he gains our love through his lovely performance) or the chirpy Kareena, or the lovely Rani Mukherjee (in a short appearance) everyone fits into their characters to the T.
Karan Johar handles each and every moment of the film with earnestness. Whether it is a sentimental scene or a humorous scene he makes a profound impact.
What’s not there?
The movie is highly melodramatic in the second half.
Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham gives the vibe that it is poured from the heart by a talented filmmaker. Go for it!
