Plot
The movie is all about the dark and dangerous consequences of a romantic relationship. The young, innocent love turns into jealousy, betrayal, and revenge. While the template of a failed love saga forms familiar ground, the story attempts to add intrigue through elements of mystery and suspense.
Star Performance
Yeh Kaisi Hai Aashiqui is a film that has taken undue exaggerations from the majority cast, who overplay hammy acting to match this melodrama throughout the story. And the direction, typical of small-budget Bollywood films, seems to lean only on conversational dialogue and overt facial expressions to pass the message.
While a few of the lead actors like Rajdeep, Sukhbir Lamba did their best with their part. Lack of depth in characters severely hinders their ability to express themselves. Shipra Gaur and Gokul Baraiyy were also appropriate as per their role allotted.
Analysis
Though the direction was befitted with genre and budget; however, the cinematography, which one expected to play its part, does end up justifying the expense with a few scenes assuming a suspenseful atmosphere through lighting and close-ups, though these shots often feel forced rather than organic.
Music has a vital role to play in most of the Bollywood movies. For an over-the-top drama film like Yeh Kaisi Hai Aashiqui, songs should signify the progression of emotional change within characters, for such a focus on music is because it allows the audiences to connect with it and portrays emotions at hand. The voice used are soulful mainly and soothing. The background score fails to contribute to the narrative strength of the movie sometimes.
The film has few weaknesses. Predictability over the plot and storytelling gives out no surprise or suspense to come, and most of the events are easy to foresee. Editing is very mediocre. Certain scenes linger there for more extended periods than necessary and slowing down the film’s pace.
