Other names of Johnny Lever: John Prakasa Rao JanumalaJohn Prakasa Rao Janumala

Johnny Lever is an Indian comedy actor who came to prominence with film actor Govinda’s films. As actors like Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor had reached a zenith in their career, it was actor Sunil Dutt who had spotted this actor in a stage (show of Amitabh Bachchan and music composer Kalyanji Anandji) and advised him to take up comedy roles seriously. He is one of the comedians who appear truly funny to make us laugh. He is also known for his wits and smarts and appears to make intelligent jokes and poke fun in many films. After Govinda was overshadowed by the prominence of Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan in the film world, Johnny Lever could make audiences laugh by using his physical appearances even in many Khans movies. He dislikes present talk comedy shows on TV and feels comedy is something that does not come in everyday life and hence screen is the mainstream media to help the comedians grow. Lever was born in Hyderabad.

His mother tongue is Telugu, and he was born to Prakash Rao Janumala and Karunamma Janumala on August 14, 1957. Besides Hindi, he has acted in a Tamil, Telugu(cameo role) and even in Tulu language film. Before making debut in films, Lever used to work in Hindustan Lever Limited Company. Once during a function of his company, he tried to make mimicry of his senior officers, and his colleagues named him Johnny Lever (not Johnny Rao). That is how Johnny came to be known as Johnny Lever to all of us. After his first debut in Sunil Dutt’s Dard Ka Rishta( where even Khushboo acted in a child role), Johnny’s talent was given a free rein in many successful films.

Many of his films such as Anari, Main Hoon Na, Tezaab, Raja Hindustani, Koyla, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiyaa, Golmaal-3, and many such movies cemented his reputation as a comic force. He was the highly sought-after comedian in Bollywood from 1990’s till date. He married Sujata Janumala and has tow children, Jamie Janumala, and Jesse Janumala. He practices Christianity now very often. He took to such turn in his life on account of his son’s illness. His son was diagnosed to have cancer. On this account, he has revealed that he had turned to God, and when after ten days his son was diagnosed again, doctors found that the disease has disappeared. This was turning point in his life. Currently, he has few projects in his hand, but he is still one of the more popular comedy actors of recent years.

Lilliput - M.M. Faruqui

‘Lilliput’ is a comedy actor in TV series and Bollywood films. His real name is M. M. Faruqui. He is known as the comedian in Jaya Bachchan’s produced TV serial, ‘Dekh Bhai Dekh’. In this serial, he appeared in various characters and left a huge impact on the minds of the audience. But, more than an actor, he is a gifted theater actor and scriptwriter even. After the huge success of ‘Dekh Bhai Dekh’, the actor got chances to play various roles, such as in the horror serial, ‘Woh’. Although he adopted his screen name as Lilliput, which he lifted from the children's classic novel, “Gulliver's Travels”, he says that due to his short stature he does not get the kind of roles that he had anticipated. He had a higher anticipation after the success of ‘Dekh Bhai Dekh’, which kept the viewers stunned by his comic antics. It is not just the small screen where the actor left his impact, but he kept people entertaining through his comic performances in movies like ‘Bunty Aur Babli’. In this movie, he played the role of a band trumpet player. In another highly acclaimed movie, ‘Saagar’, he played the role of Cheena. ‘Saagar’ was directed by 'Sholay' fame, Ramesh Sippy. Other movies where he was seen in small characters include ‘Swarg’, and ‘Shatranj’. Lilliput is a veteran theater artist and has a root in acting, which he owns to stage and plays. He has been appearing on stage right from his childhood. Besides acting on stages, he has even written various scripts for plays that were staged live. However, Lilliput believes that there has been no mad rush to see his plays, as people loved watching Bollywood superstars on screens rather than watching Lilliput performing on stage shows. After writing scripts for dramas and plays, the versatile actor moved to Bollywood for penning scripts for some mainstream Hindi movies too. He is, today, an illustrious theater, television and film actor, and writer par excellence. The actor takes an interest in teaching students even in the Indian Film and Television Institute.
