John Hodge was born in the year 1964 in Glasgow, Scotland. He is a British dramatist and screenwriter. Some of his works include the translation of the novel Trainspotting into a film script with same the same title. His debut play was the Collaborators, he won the Oliver Award for the best new play in the year 2012. Some of his films include The Final Curtain (2002), A Life Less Ordinary (1997), Shallow Grave (1994), and one short movie Alien Love Triangle (2002).

John studied medical at the University of Edinburgh. His meeting with producer Andrew Macdonald at the Edinburgh film festival encouraged him to write scripts in the year 1991. After he had written the script for Shallow Grave, he moved to London to pursue his career. He got married to Lucy Hodge in the year 1997.

He won the BAFTA Award for the Best Adapted Screenplay for the movie Trainspotting in the year 1995. He was nominated for the Academy Award for the screenplay of the film Trainspotting in the year 1996. He won the Olivier Award for the best new play in the year 2012. He is currently working on the Stalin biopic.
