David Ebershoff is an American author, and editor who put the ink to paper for the phenomenal novel, ‘ The Danish Girl Click to look into! >> Read More... .’ He was born on 17th January 1969 in Pasadena, California. He finished his schooling from the Polytechnic School in Pasadena, graduation from the University of Chicago and masters from the Brown University in Rhode Island. He began his career as a summer intern editor for Random House, the world’s largest general-interest paperback publishing company. He gradually rose to the rank of the Vice President and Executive Editor of the company. In 2000, David penned down his first novel, The Danish Girl, which folds out the story of Lili Elbe, who was one of the world's first people to undergo a sex-change operation.

While some of the characters in the novel are real, most of the writing is fictitious and is an account of how David perceived Lili’s intimate life. The novel was an international bestseller and won the Rosenthal Foundation Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters along with the Lambda Literary Award in the transgender fiction category. The movie was nominated for four Academy Awards, five BAFTAs, five Critics’ Choice Awards, three Golden Globes, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards. Eddie Redmayne got nominated for the Academy Award for best actor while Vikander took home with her the Oscar for best-supporting actress. David next wrote ‘Pasadena’ based on his life in his hometown. It was his first New York Times bestseller. His third writing was a murder mystery ‘The 19th Wife’, which is crafted around the story of Ann Eliza Young, one of Brigham Young’s wives, running parallel with modern day polygamy in the USA, was a Sunday Times and New York Times bestseller, selling over a million copies worldwide.

After it was included in the on-air book club by talk show hosts, Richard and Judy, it became the bestseller in the United Kingdom as well. As an editor, David has assisted numerous fiction as well as non-fiction authors in making their novels bestsellers and winning literary prizes. In 2013, ‘The Orphan Master’s Son’ by Adam Johnson and ‘Embers of War’ by Fredrik Logevall won the Pulitzer Prizes for best novels in fiction and history category respectively, bringing David the distinction of being the first person to edit Pulitzer Prize winners for both fiction and history in the same year.

He also edited Adam Johnson’s next work ‘Fortune Smiles’, David Kretzer’s ‘The Pope and Mussolini’ and Imbolo Imbue’s ‘Behold the Dreamers’, which won the National Book Award in fiction, Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography and the PEN/Faulkner Award respectively. Behold the Dreamers was selected for the Oprah Book Club in 2017. David has twice been named annually as one of the hundred most influential LGBT people by the Out Magazine. In 2018, he was inducted into the Leadership Council of the Lambda Literary Foundation. He also taught writing at the Princeton College and the New York University. He currently resides in Manhattan and teaches literature to the MFA students at the Columbia University in New York.
