Ella Marija Lani Yelich O`Connor, whose professional name is Lorde, is a New Zealand-based singer-songwriter. She was born on November 7, 1996. Her birthplace is Takapuna, a suburb of Auckland, but she grew up in Devonport, New Zealand. Lorde expressed interest in performing in local venues when she was a teenager. In 2009, she signed with Universal Music Group and started recording material in 2011 with producer Joel Little. Originally downloaded for free on SoundCloud in 2012, UMG released the couple's first collaborative work in 2013, called The Love Club's Extended Playback (EP). EP's international chart single "Royals" made Lorde famous.
Her first studio album "Pure Heroine" was released in the same year and was a critical and commercial success. The following year, Lord planned the soundtrack of the 2014 movie "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay" and recorded tracks, including "Yellow Blinking Beat." Her second studio album "Melodrama" (2017) was critically acclaimed and debuted on the US Billboard 200 for the first time. Lorde’s awards include two Grammy Awards, two British Music Awards, and one Golden Globe nomination. She appeared on the Times' Most Influential Youth List in 2013 and 2014, and in the 2014 Forbes list of 30 under 30. In addition to her personal work, she has also co-written songs for other artists including Broods and Bleachers. As of June 2017, Lorde sold more than 5 million albums worldwide.
