Sir Daniel Michael Blake Day Lewis, simply known as Daniel Day Lewis, is a British actor who has been active for more than 30 years in his profession. Daniel is evaluated as one of the exceptional actors ever; TIME Magazine gave him the distinction of being the “World’s Greatest Actor” in 2012. He’s a renowned method actor and immerses himself deep into whatever character he is playing. He is also very selective with his movie roles.

When he began his career in the early 80’s, Daniel Day Lewis did mostly theatre work. He has performed in renditions of Shakespearean plays “Romeo and Juliet”, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and even “Hamlet”. It was during his performance in Hamlet that he had a breakdown in between the performance and had to be replaced mid-play. The scrutiny from that incident eventually forced him to move to Ireland as he values privacy; till date, he holds both English and Irish citizenship.

In 1989, he starred in the movie “My Left Foot”, a tale about a man born cerebral palsy who could only fully control his left foot. He received an Oscar under the category of Best Actor thanks to this performance. This launched his career massively and during the 90’s he was part of many successful movies including The Last of the Mohicans, In The Name of the Father and The Boxer.

He has since taken a sabbatical from filming movies. He was knighted in the year 2014 for his contributions to the art of drama.
