New York. He is popular for playing action hero roles like his character as Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon and as Max Rockatansky in Mad Max action series. He studied at National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney. He is the founder of a production company Icon Entertainment, which was found in the year 1989. He gets pleasant reviews for his work by film critics and holds his position on their favorable notes. He made his debut into cine industry as a student in 1977 movie Summer City. After that, he did many films which brought him so much fame and experience that he joined Hollywood and acted in his first American drama film “The River” in 1984.
He became popular with super-hit ventures like Mad Max and Lethal Weapon series. After that, being well known as an actor he continued his career as director and producer. At the early stage of his career, he worked in some TV shows and stage plays and was eventually selected for Mad Max (1979) and Tim (1979). Mad Max gained him worldwide recognition. In 1987, he played Martin Riggs in the movie Lethal Weapon, which shot him to the top of Hollywood. He worked in the sequel Lethal Weapon 2 (1989), played the titular role in Hamlet (1990), Lethal Weapon 3 (1992), Forever Young (1992), The Man Without a Face (1993) and some other movies.
He directed and played ‘William Wallace’ in Braveheart (1995). The movie won five Oscars.
He worked in films like Ransom (1996), Lethal Weapon 4(1998), Payback (1999), The Patriot (2000), What Women Want (2000), We Were Soldiers (2002), Signs (2002) and gave his voice in Chicken Run (2000). He returned with Edge of Darkness (2010) and played the antagonist in both Machete Kills (2013) and the Expendables 3 (2014).
He is said to have been considered for the titular role in Batman (1989) and Wolverine in X-Men (2000). His name appears on the list of the greatest actors of all time.
