Allen Hughes is an American producer and a director. He and his twin brother Albert Hughes owns a production company named Hughes Brothers Productions. Allen was born on 1st March 1972, in Detroit Michigan. These twin brothers are known to work together and known to make some excellent movies. They are mainly known for their work in the movie Dead Presidents, The Book of Eli, From Hell and Menace II: Society. Allen started making films when he was just twelve years old. Allen, along with his brother moved to Pomona, California.

Allen’s parents got divorced, and her mother raised both the twins on her own. She put the twins in the school and started a small business of her own. She realized her children’s interest in filmmaking and thus bought them a camera when they were just twelve years old. Both Allen and Albert started making small movies which were well appreciated by their viewers. Allen’s official filmmaking career started when he was in his freshman year of his high school. Both the brothers made a very impressive short movie named How To Be a Burglar. The movie had a very deep impact on its viewers. After turning 18, Allen and his brother dropped out of high school and started making short movies. They started on working on Tupac and Tone Loc music videos.

In 1993, they directed their first movie named Menace II Society. The movie was also premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. They made this movie under the budget of $3.5 million. The story of the movie was written by both the brothers along with Tyger Williams. The movie was such a success that it was even nominated for the Best Feature Film at the Independent Spirit Award. After the success Menace II Society, they directed their second movie in the year 1995 named Dead Presidents. The movie revolved around racial war during Vietnam War era.

The movie received mixed reviews from both the critics and the viewers. After Dead Presidents, Allen directed his third movie named American Pimp. The movie was a documentary film based on the life of a pimp and also focused on women exploitation. American Pimp was premiered at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival. In 2001, Allen directed the movie From Hell, which was based on Alan Moore’s novel, starring Jonny Depp.

There were some disputes between the two brothers while directing the movie, but at the end, the movie did quite good on the box-office. After that, both the brothers worked on different projects but did remain in touch. Allen was hired as the director of the show Touching Evil. In 2005, he directed the show Knights of the South Bronx. In the year 2011, Allen directed some episodes of New York; I Love You. In 2011, both the brother came together and directed the movie named Book of Eli.
