Juan Antonio Bayona

Juan Antonio was born on May 9, 1975, in Spain. During his childhood, he had a great passion for films. With this passion, he first becomes a Journalist. After that, he started studying how to direct cinema at the Audiovisual School. By the year 1993, during the Film Festival, he met director Guillermo Del Toro, who was there to present his film, ‘Cronos’. Del Toro promised to help him in his future films in order to get him a reconsidered place.

He then completed his studies from ESCAC, and started his career by directing small videos and pop videos for musical groups in Spanish. The Spanish group includes OBK, Hevia, and Camella. He began directing short films and in the year 1999, he directed My Holidays, and in the year 2002, The Spongeman. By the year 2004, he received an offer from Sergio G.Sanchez, who was directing the short film, 7337, which was based on the concept of The Orphanage. He started directing these films, which doubled the money and time, so he planned to get help from his fellow director, Del Toro. The film released at the Cannes Film Festival on 20 May, 2007. The film was first released in Spain with a box office hit and soon, all over the world with about $8.3 million in a four-day launch, which was the second highest scoring film in Spanish. For this movie, he received the award for Best Director at the Goya Awards by the year 2008.

By the year 2009, he reported his reunion with the writer, Sergio, for the movie, The Impossible. The film was based on the original story, which happened at the Indian Ocean Earthquake. His next film was A Monster Call. The talkie revolves about how a little boy who learns fantasy from a monster. By the year 2008, he signed an agreement to direct ‘Hater’, which revolves around the violence caused by regular people.

By April 18, 2016, he signed to direct Jurassic World, which was a sequel. His film sequence includes My Holiday, which was a short film, The Orphanage, which was released by the year 2007, and Penny Dreadful, which was a 2-episode series. An untitled Jurassic World, which is set to release in the year 2018, will also be directed by him.
