Born on 5th March 1977, Selvaraghavan is primarily a Tamil director. His father is director Kasthuriraja and his brother is acclaimed actor Dhanush. His romantic film Kadhal Kondein gained wide recognition. Then he did 7G Rainbow Colony, which was also of romantic genre.

The marriage lasted for only two years and they parted ways. Later he got married to Gitanjali, who was the assistant director for one of his films. They are blessed with a daughter and son. Since Selvaraghavan is affected with a disease in the eye, he always wears glasses. 

Subsequent to his graduation, in 1997 Selva Raghavan consulted some producers and asked them to accept his screenplay, but it was not fruitful. He was out of job for some time. Selvaraghavan admits that his strength is in penning a great screenplay. 

Selvaraghavan also worked in Telugu; his film starring Venkatesh was a commercial hit. He did a great deal of research for his fantasy film Aayirathil Oruvan starring Karthi.
