This is the first time Dhanush directed Selvaraghavan. Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, and Dushara Vijayan play Dhanush’s siblings.
Plot
Raayan is a young man, who is very fond of his family. He has brothers and a sister. When his family is ruined, the angry Raayan decides to avenge their death. He starts his quest in finding the murderers with the help of organized crime syndicate. Did he succeed? Was he punished? Raayan’s second half replies to all the questions.
Star Performance
Dhanush is terrifying as usual. SJ Surya has done a decent job. However, he didn’t get a super-solid role. Kalidas is good in his role. Sundeep gets a meaty role, and this will be one of his recent good performances. Sundeep and Aparna’s chemistry is good too. Prakash Raj and the rest of the cast have done what was required.

,” and even “Maanaadu.” This time, we get a feeling that his character could’ve been written a bit stronger. AR Rahman’s composition has done a great wonder after a long. Though his recent hits include some from Ponniyin Selvan, many missed the vintage AR Rahman, and for those people, Raayan’s songs and BGM will give a good solace. The action scenes are finely choreographed. The visuals are fine. Yet, they should’ve avoided a few bloodshed scenes. The editing is pretty decent.

Verdict
For the fans of “Asuran,” Raayan will look like the closest aide. For the fans of Vada Chennai, it will be a slight disappointment. However, it is a good show by Dhanush and team. Raayan – One-time watch!
