Kasi Viswanathan is a renowned editor of films of the Indian Cinema. He has mainly worked in the ‘Malayalam’, ‘Kannada’, and ‘Tamil’ language movies. Viswanathan always dreamt of becoming a cinematographer, but due to lack of opportunities, he failed to become one. Instead, he worked as the assistant of ‘K.Narayana’, an editor of ‘Malayalam’ films. Later on, he worked as the assistant editor in ‘Thevar Magan’ and ‘Kuruthipunal’. ‘Thevar Magan’, a ‘Tamil’ picture, was released in 1992.

Recently, again he was part of writer-cum-director Suseenthiran’s camp which featured him in editing the movie 'Nenjil Thunivirundhal’ shot in Tamil and Telugu.
He had made successful collaboration with Prakash Raj's productions (Duet Movies) and even had a good association with filmmakers like Seenu Ramasamy, Sundar C, Radha Mohan. In 2001, he made debut as an editor in movie 'Aalavandhan' directed by Suresh Krissna and produced by S. Thanu. Before joining movies, the editor had a dream to work as a cinematographer but faced rejection at times.So he chose to work as an assistant to Malayalam editor K. Narayanan. He later got some big projects like ‘Thevar Magan’ (1992) and another big banner ‘Kurutipunal’ (1996) wherein he worked as an associate editor to N. P. Satish.
He later worked as an apprentice under A. Sreekar Prasad and got trained to edit films of several languages including Oriya, Sinhalese, and Kannada. For the movie in which he made a debut, Kasi Viswanathan had to work; he had to experiment with techniques that needed his knowledge of animation and motion capture cameras. He had handled exceptionally well the editing portion of car-bike chase scenes, fight sequences, etc. in many movies which fetched him wider recognition in Kollywood.
In an earlier part of his career in Kollywood, he began his journey with many
’s movies. He was a just cine buff and a commoner who knew nothing about cinema but had a dream to become a cinematographer. Remember the iconic scene between Sivaji and Kamal in ‘Devar Magan’ where Sivaji tells Komal to leave? The shot was a master-shot which needed excellent editing. It was Kamal Haasan who had advised him that if he does not grasp the digital technology, then editing would become a totally difficult task.
Remember the car scene chase in 'Aalavandhan ', - the editor admits that Kamal can be kept in the forefront in bringing digital revolution in cinema. In certain movies, he feels that dubbing is to be followed with trimming too. He worked in such movies too. Take for instance the movie' Mozhi ' which featured Jyotika as a dumb artiste. These are the few films that brought him a lot of recognition. Sometimes, he feels that he has committed himself to a bad project.
He admires Editor Lenin who matches screenplay and story with perfect editing. He is an admirer of Suseentrhan who is a family member. His good film that he can consider as his best was 'Neerparavai'. This editor has contributed to Duet Productions movies which are run by actor Prakash Raj.
